Welcome to
the Assyrian United Organizations of California, Inc. website. We
hope
that with this site we can bring to you news and updates from all of our
local branches of Assyrian organizations across California.
The
present A.U.O.C. found its roots in the year 1966, when three
organizations: Assyrian Community Center of San Francisco, Assyrian
American Association of Southern California and Assyrian Civic Club of
Turlock, decided to get their members together once a year during the
4th of July holidays to have a reunion while enjoying food and music. As
these three organizations became more established, new organizations
were formed across California as well and also joined the A.U.O.C. The
affiliates embarked upon drafting a constitution to form a formal,
non-profit entity. After months of much deliberation in 1991, the
present AUOC constitution was drafted. The structure has been based on
the member organizations collectively cooperating with one another in
order to create a common bond based on common projects. Unity and
participation was strictly based on common cause projects. Annual social
functions, athletic activities, networking, scholarship and media were
amongst the main goals for which this organization was established.
Since the unity, the annual gathering had been formally moved to the
Memorial Weekend in May of every year, becoming a great annual Assyrian
State Convention.
Due to
many circumstances, some of the above goals for which the organization
was founded were overlooked during the years. As one of the founding
members and drafter of the original A.U.O.C. Constitution, I have
committed myself to assume the responsibility of the Presidency of the
A.U.O.C. at this time. My main goal is that I may implement the
programs for which this organization was established. I have since
becoming the President, established various committees within the body
of the organization and look forward to the full participation and hard
work of the committee members so we may implement the said goals. I
further hope that through a clear vision and dedicated hard work of
volunteers, I and the affiliate members will be able to establish a
direct link with our larger Assyrian family within the state of
California and beyond.
The needs
of our communities are numerous and at times beyond the capabilities of
one or two organizations. For this reason, effective communication
and participation of all Assyrians within our communities are essential
and I look forward to many successful years for the A.U.O.C.
Sincerely,
Edward
Beitashour, President
